2025 Western Canadian Scholarship Awarded

At Strike Group, we are committed to fostering inclusion and supporting the next generation of skilled trades and professionals. As part of this commitment, we annually offer a variety of $2,000 scholarships to students. Our Western Canadian Scholarship promotes inclusion by being open to any and all students in Western Canada who are pursuing an education in the skilled trades or energy sector.

This year, we are thrilled to award the 2025 Western Canadian Scholarship to Zeyus Spenta.

Zeyus is pursuing a Bachelor of Global Resource Systems at the University of British Columbia. His dedication to community impact and volunteerism is truly extraordinary. The scope, depth, and consistency of his contributions go far beyond anything we have ever seen. He is an inspiring example of what it means to lead with heart, purpose, and service.

From planting trees to championing leadership, he gives back to his community in numerous ways, including:

  • Served as Student Council President, leading social justice campaigns, Truth & Reconciliation activities, cultural celebrations, and major fundraisers.
  • Contributing 500+ on-call hours as a First Responder at his high school.
  • Promoting inclusion as an Asian Gold Ribbon Campaign Leader, autism-awareness fundraiser, Peer2Peer programs, and successfully advocating and securing a new accessible crosswalk near his high school.
  • Acting as Co-President of the District Student Leadership Council, representing 16,000 students and leading 100 members in dialogue with the district’s executive team.
  • Supporting district-wide student wellbeing through a Mental Health Working Group, such as helping organize “Let’s Talk Day” events.
  • Serves as a member of the district’s Sustainability Committee and an organizer of its Sustainability Forum.
  • Championing initiatives that help expand Indigenous course offerings and contributing to the District BIPOC Anti-Racism Focus Group.
  • Completing 600+ community service hours outside of school.
  • Serving as Student Advisory Trustee for the North Vancouver City Library, providing governance insight.
  • Appointed as a member of the City of North Vancouver Social Planning Advisory Committee, he provides feedback on social policy and has helped allocate $600,000+ in grants.
  • Vice-Chair of the Lions Gate Hospital Youth Advisory Committee, raising thousands for healthcare and organizing student education events.
  • Became a lifeguard and swim instructor, helping children and adults overcome their fear of the water.
  • Recipient of the City of North Vancouver “Give Back Award” (2024) for outstanding voluntary community contribution.

Our community has shaped who I am today, and I find fulfillment by giving back to many of the same organizations.
