2025 Canadian Immigrant Scholarship Awarded

Strike’s scholarship program is part of our commitment to helping break through barriers and create a positive impact on the community at large. We believe that everyone has a right to education, and we are committed to providing people in historically underrepresented groups with financial aid.

Each year, we offer a $2,000 scholarship to a student who is currently working in, or planning to pursue a career in, the energy or construction sector. The 2025 Canadian Immigrant Scholarship was awarded to Aon Hijazi.

Aon is entering his 4th year of Engineering at the University of Calgary this fall, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace. He has completed multiple internships with Calgary-based energy companies and aspires to help build sustainable infrastructure within the industry.

He gives back to his community in many ways, including:

  • Served as a Community Advisor within Residence Services at the University of Calgary, a live-in, volunteer leadership role where he mentored students and helped build a welcoming, supportive residence community.
  • Organized numerous residence programs, including Black History Month awareness campaigns that highlighted Black leaders in Canadian history. Collaborated with the UCalgary Recovery Community to host substance-free living info nights and promote recovery resources.
  • Volunteered with various community organizations in Calgary, supporting seniors in care homes and helping newcomer children learning English.
  • Mentored new international students through UCalgary’s International Student Services Office, offering guidance on academic success and adjusting to life in Canada.
  • Held executive and leadership roles in student organizations such as the Student Organization for Aerospace Research (SOAR), Hydrogen Eco Car Club, and Real Estate Student Association (RESA). As a member of the Diversity Advocacy Committee within the Engineering Student Society, he contributed to initiatives that foster inclusivity in STEM fields.

I truly believe that community involvement is about empowering others, breaking down barriers, and creating spaces where everyone feels valued and heard, and I am committed to continuing this work throughout my academic and professional career.

— Aon Hijazi

Aon’s dedication to giving back is truly inspiring, especially as an international student. He’s proven to be a community champion, uplifting others while navigating his own academic journey in Canada.

Strike wishes Aon all the best with his educational journey and future endeavors!
