2026 Canadian Immigrant Scholarship Awarded

At Strike Group, we are committed to fostering inclusion and supporting the next generation of skilled trades professionals. As part of this commitment, we annually offer a variety of $2,000 scholarships to students. Our Canadian Immigrant Scholarship promotes opportunity and inclusion by investing in students across Western Canada who are pursuing pathways in the skilled trades or energy sector. We recognize the value that diverse experiences, perspectives, and journeys bring to our communities, workplaces, and industry.

This year, we are thrilled to award the 2026 Canadian Immigrant Scholarship to Bright Agbonze.

Bright is pursuing a Mobile Crane and Hoist Operator Apprenticeship at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). After immigrating to Canada 22 years ago, he has worked hard to build a life rooted in community, perseverance, and helping others. His application stood out to us for many reasons: his determination to pursue an apprenticeship in the skilled trades, his commitment to family, and the glowing references he received from industry professionals, all of which speak to his character and the positive impact he has on those around him.

He also gives back to his community in many meaningful ways, including:

  • Participating in community cleanups by picking up litter and helping remove graffiti
  • Assisting senior neighbours during the winter by clearing snow from walkways and driveways, helping free stuck vehicles, and jump-starting cars in need

I am excited to be in the final stages of completing my Apprenticeship. I am truly looking forward to becoming a Journeyperson in the Trade of Mobile Crane and Hoist. This is a field that I sought out many years ago. It was a very difficult process for me before I became an Apprentice. It will be a truly joyous experience to achieve my Certification.

— Bright Agbonze

Bright’s enthusiasm for the skilled trades is contagious. His journey reflects determination, resilience, and a strong commitment to community. His community leadership embodies a true Canadian spirit of giving back, supporting neighbours, and creating positive change. We cannot wait to see the change he will create and the meaningful contributions he will undoubtedly continue to make in the years ahead.

Strike wishes Bright all the best with his educational journey and future endeavours!
